Friday, January 4: Charleston SC

There was a phenomena that happened this morning. A brightness that nearly blinded us as we opened th e motor home curtains-SUNSHINE! What a difference that bright star makes in a day. We began our day as usual; made the bed, cleaned "the house", got ready for a day of sight-seeing. After several days of dreary, ucky weather it was nice to get in the Jeep and head for sun n' fun...well, almost...we got about 100 yards from our campsite and noticed what seemed to be burning rubber smell; then we saw steamy-smoke coming out from  under the hood of the Jeep. Wheeling back to the campsite we voiced the usual oh-oh's and peeked under the hood-after a few minutes the steam cleared from the radiator; Dave figured it was a result of all the precipitation from traveling down the road. And the burning rubber smell was from a thing-a-ma-jig that had come loose from a what-cha-ma-call-it; so Dave secured it and we got on the road. Whew! We found our way to the Charleston Visitor Center and got lots of brochures and drove through some lovely streets of Charleston, visited the Coast Guard station, The Battery, Waterfront Park and found a really nice Harris Teeter. We meandered through some of the neighborhoods and worked our way back to camp. After dinner we strolled through the campground and sat beside a pond that had a sign informing us not to aggravate the alligators!
