This last full day in Charleston again began with blue skies and sunshine and temp a cool 47. Our day began at the Charleston Visitor Center where we boarded Charms of Charleston Tours. Our tour guide, Bubba, is third generation Charlestonian and guided us for 90-minutes through the historical areas of Charleston. We recommend this tour company, as they shared an ancestral knowledge of Charleston and the region as well as anecdotes of culture and lifestyles. The tour was not hurried and we were given time to see over 100 historical sites. Bubba recommended several local eateries and we chose Hyman's Seafood on Meeting Street. The menu choices were many and we were given a complimentary appetizer of grits and green tomatoes. Dave liked the grits and I liked the 'maters. We had the best hush puppies we have ever tasted; rich and moist and fried to perfection. Hyman's also gives you a bowl of boiled peanuts. Guess we are not acclimated enough to the south to enjoy this as others seem to, but our lunches were good and service was great. After rolling away from the table we walked along a few streets, found our way to the old jail, which is being restored, and returned to camp. St. James Island County Park is very big-rig friendly; sites are spaced well and bathhouses are clean and well kept. We will definitely return to this park and spend more time in and around Charleston. Tomorrow we find ourselves breaking camp and heading south to Jacksonville.
